Embracing the Journey of Self-Healing
Healing is not about forgetting the past; it’s about honoring the strength it left behind. Sometimes, we look back at our former selves and feel sorrow, yet deep within, admiration grows for the resilience that carried us forward.
This poem, The Shadow I Once Was, explores the journey of self-discovery, healing, and embracing the light we never knew was within us.
The Shadow I Once Was
I walked through the corridors of time,
Tracing the outline of who I was.
A fragile thing, stitched together
By whispered apologies and fading scars.I stood at the doorstep of my past,
Watching her—bent but unbroken.
She looked at me with hollow eyes,
Not knowing she would one day shine.I whispered to her through the years,
‘You were never weak, only tired.’
And as I stepped forward into the light,
She followed—whole, and finally free.
A Reflection on Growth
Healing is a journey, not a destination. Every version of yourself that you have ever been is part of your story, guiding you toward the person you are becoming. The Shadow I Once Was reminds us that we are not defined by our hardest moments but by the courage it takes to rise from them.
